Jay Timms BMT, MA, CCC

Jay Timms has been working with families since 2002. Currently, Jay is one of the few researchers in Canada who is exploring the relationships between fathers and their children, and will be presenting his research to organizations across Canada beginning in October of 2008. He is in the process of writing his first book, and has created parent training seminars and workshops based on this research for the Building Healthy Relationships group. As a dynamic therapist and motivational speaker, Jay’s direct and honest approach allows clients to see alternatives to their current life situations.

Jay also works with individual adults and youth who face a variety of challenges. Having worked within school districts in the Lower Mainland, Jay is aware of many of the challenges facing youth and teens. Being a parent, husband, and previous business executive, Jay is also keenly aware of the challenges facing individuals who are burdened by daily stresses and just can’t seem to get out of the “rut”. Jay has spent many years working with various individuals. His experience includes working with teens, parents, couples, mental health issues (including depression, anxiety, risk of suicide, and sexually intrusive behaviours), addictions, geriatrics, individuals preparing for death, and grief and loss.

Jay has a private practice where he works with marriage and family issues, is a qualified Music Therapist, and also works with Child and Youth Mental Health.

When Jay isn’t at the office, he enjoys spending time playing musical instruments, photography, skiing and snowboarding, riding his motorcycle, and “hanging out” with his wife and 2 children.
